Neurology and Neurosurgery Services
Problems with your nervous system affect everything from breathing and swallowing to walking and learning.
Our compassionate and innovative team treats all types of neurological problems both surgically and non-surgically.
Our approach to neurology and neurosurgery
The UCI Health neurology and neurosurgery programs are proud to keep our focus centered on you, the patient. We use the latest medical advances and a forward-looking approach to provide you with individualized care.
How we work together
The interconnected nature of your brain, spine and nervous system requires vast medical expertise. The majority of our neurologists and neurosurgeons are subspecialists.
In many of our programs (general neurology, neuro-oncology, epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders and others), our subspecialists meet regularly to discuss multidisciplinary approaches to your treatment plan. We also confer with non-neurologists, such as our strong neuropsychology team and nurse practitioners.
These unique specialists all weigh in on the specifics of your care. You benefit from their collective expertise.
Our collaborative approach
We are committed to transforming neurological care. Part of our philosophy is to foster fruitful collaborations. This happens not only between doctors with different training and specialties but between UCI Health and the University.
We offer care beyond conventional medicine when possible. For example, if you’re a Parkinson’s patient, you may experience voice problems. We may reach out to our colleagues in the UCI music and theater departments to assist you with additional tools.
We’re continuously identifying what the leading-edge diagnostic tools and treatments will be three to five years down the line. That means you get access to the best of what's available now and in the future.
Our research
UCI Health specialists conduct ongoing neuroscience research, creating a pipeline of new treatments for you.
Our neuroscience clinical trials allow you access to the latest medicines, surgeries and technologies not widely available anywhere else.

We keep an intensive focus on you
If there's some difficulty in making a diagnosis, we confer as a team to strategize about your treatment options. Even if you consult with one neurologist or neurosurgeon, you’ll receive the benefit and wisdom of our group knowledge. That’s the natural result of our multidisciplinary approach.
A key advantage of an academic medical center is access to the latest and greatest in diagnostic tools
Neuroimaging (MRI nuclear imaging, CT scan, PET scan, etc.) plays an essential role in diagnosing neurological disorders. Our clinicians use artificial intelligence to provide a leading-edge analysis of your imaging tests. This sophisticated software improves image quality and reduces errors, increasing the accuracy of our imaging results.
Expertly trained neurology faculty deliver advanced care and education
All our neurology faculty have completed specialty training in postgraduate fellowship programs and possess years of hands-on clinical experience. They also teach and present at national and international meetings, ensuring they stay updated on the latest advances to share with you.
Neurology and neurosurgery services are now part of a distinguished national program called the Undiagnosed Disease Network
The Undiagnosed Disease Network is an NIH-funded research study. This network helps people get answers about what condition they have.
We are honored to be one of only about 20 UDN centers nationwide. Our membership in this network gives us access to high-level tools, like genetic testing that is not normally available.

Your nervous system needs sophisticated care
We often overlook the vital role our nervous system plays until something goes wrong.
Our neuro experts have the specialized training to understand, diagnose and treat an immense range of disorders.
