During Your Stay in the Acute Rehabilitation Unit
The length of time you spend in the Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is based on your specific needs and rehabilitative progress. Although the average length of stay is seven to 14 days, your team will determine your specific length of stay and regularly review your progress.
Here's what you can expect during your time in the ARU.
Daily therapy
Therapy schedules will be provided in the morning. You will receive a minimum of three hours of daily therapy. Sessions occur between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday is typically reserved as your day off from scheduled therapy.
Therapy is tailored to your personal goals and your unique needs.
Family participation
Family and/or caregivers are welcome, and we strongly encourage them to be involved in your therapy sessions. Participation and training with your visitors is extremely valuable in therapy and can lead to a successful recovery.
Clothing
You will wear your own comfortable clothes, socks and tennis shoes. You should be dressed and out of bed for the majority of the day. Because the goal is to build strength, we encourage participation in activities throughout your program. Please note that no laundry services are provided.
Meals
The common area is available for dining in a group setting. If you prefer to eat in your room, we ask that you do so while sitting up. This helps maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
Toiletries and personal items
Bring items such as glasses, dentures, toiletries (for example, brush, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, etc.), pictures, blankets or other items that will help you feel more comfortable during your stay. If you are unable to bring your personal items with you, toiletries will be provided Wi-Fi is available for your technology needs.
