Orange, Calif. — Four UCI Health facilities have earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and the Association’s Stroke and Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Awards. This prestigious program honors hospitals that demonstrate specific capabilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases, highlighting the high level of care provided across UCI Health locations.

“These continued certifications and awards represent a long-standing dedication to excellence by our entire team of physicians, nurses, pharmacists, technicians, and quality improvement co-workers throughout our health system,” said Chad T. Lefteris, president and CEO of UCI Health. “We are honored to provide comprehensive stroke care to the communities we serve and remain steadfast in our unwavering commitment to improve the lives of our patients.”

The first few minutes of a stroke are the most important. Acting quickly could mean the difference between life and death when you or a loved one are having a stroke. Research has shown that two million brain cells are lost within the first minute alone. Prompt treatment significantly improves the likelihood of a full recovery.

UCI Medical Center and UCI Health Community Network locations UCI Health ― Fountain ValleyUCI Health ― Los Alamitos and UCI Health ― Lakewood have demonstrated the ability to meet the stringent requirements of the Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification Program.
