IN THE NEWS: While it may be the season for shopping and snowmen and roasting chestnuts, it is also a time for cold, rainy weather, which means it is also flu season. And with that comes hesitation about the vaccine. Dr. Jose Mayorga, executive director and chief medical officer at the UCI Health Family Health Center in Anaheim and Santa Ana, tells Fox 11 Los Angeles why he recommends vaccination for everyone.
“I am a strong proponent of the flu vaccine. I’ve been getting this for a very long time. My whole family does. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone if I didn’t recommend it to my own family and myself. We’re seeing an uptick in flu infection already, so it is important to get it now. It takes about three weeks to get full immune response to it. It’s important to get it sooner than later.”
Mayorga is an assistant clinical professor of family medicine at the UCI School of Medicine. He has been named a physician of excellence by the Orange County Medical Association. His clinical interests include children's health, women and maternal health and preventive care. Mayorga, who is fluent in Spanish, sees patients at the family health centers in Anaheim and Santa Ana.
Mayorga has dedicated his career to providing high-quality care to the medically underserved. He has been an advocate in empowering care teams to function at their highest level of expertise, which resulted in numerous successes in improved care for the most vulnerable in Orange County.
