Dr. Shaista Malik receives Vision and Leadership Award from Octane

Irvine, Calif. – Dr. Shaista Malik, founding executive director of UCI Health Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, has received the Vision and Leadership Award from Octane, a convening organization for Southern California technology and medical technology businesses.
The award was presented by Octane CEO Bill Carpou at the organization’s annual High Tech Awards on Sept. 26, 2024.
“Malik leads innovative integrative health programs at UCI, addressing the holistic influences on health and well-being. Her contributions to patient care, teaching and research are remarkable, with over 35,000 citations and several NIH [National Institute of Health] grants. Malik’s dedication to improving healthcare is truly inspiring,” Octane said.
Malik is the founding medical director of the UCI Health Preventive Cardiology and UCI Health Cardiac Rehabilitation programs. She has repeatedly been recognized as a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association.
“I am honored to receive the Vision and Leadership Award from Octane,” Malik said.

Malik is also the founding associate vice chancellor of integrative health for the UC Irvine Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences. She is a professor in the Mary & Steve Wen Cardiovascular Division in the Department of Medicine at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. In March 2023, Malik was named Woman of the Year for Irvine by California Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris.
