IN THE NEWS: Dr. Shaista Malik, founding executive director of the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, part of UCI Health, was honored by 73rd district Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris as the Woman of the Year for Irvine at a ceremony on Thursday.
“It is a profound honor to be recognized by Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris for the work that my team and I have been deeply committed to: providing a whole-person approach to patient care,” said Malik.
“I want to use this recognition as an opportunity to continue advocating for healthcare quality, equity and access for all, and to inspire others to engage in integrative whole-person health.”
Malik specializes in integrative cardiology and precision health. She has been recognized as a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association and Southern California Super Doctors.
The Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute is part of one of the only academic institutions working to advance evidence-based, interdisciplinary approaches to integrative health. The institute provides comprehensive services at eight Orange County locations, including the UCI campus.
Also honored were UCI alum Jennifer Friend, CEO of Project Hope Alliance and Samueli Institute advisory board member, for Costa Mesa, and Dr. Samar Aziz, co-founder and CEO of Sabil USA, for Tustin.
“One of the things that I always come away with after these events is just a sense of inspiration and, really, of hope,” Petrie-Norris said.
“All of these women, and so many of the women that we’ve been able to honor over the years, they’re tackling some of the toughest challenges facing our cities today and facing the planet today.
