UCI Health clinical nurse Cristian Rosa with the DAISY Award.
Orange, Calif. — Two UCI Health nursing team members were honored last month for going above and beyond for their patients and colleagues.
The DAISY award honors nurses who demonstrate excellence in patient care while displaying the values of compassion, courage and integrity.
Cristian Rosa, MSN, RN, CCRN, is a clinical nurse on the code blue and rapid response team. He arrived at UCI Health in 2020 after five years at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
After working at the bedside throughout the pandemic, he feels he has found his calling. Rosa is grateful for what he has become because of nursing.
His award nomination details in part his work to go above and beyond during a code blue. His leadership and suggestions were instrumental in preventing the patient from coding.
"Cristian didn't have to help but because he is that special nurse, he did. He demonstrated true care and focus for the needs of this patient and his peers in MICU,” reads his nomination.
Janette Rodes-Sanchez, BSN, RN, CCRN, a clinical nurse in the medical intensive care unit, was honored with a DAISY Nurse Leader award.
Rodes-Sanchez, who has 30 years of service at UCI Health, was nominated for the impact she has had on the MICU since joining the team in fall 2022.
“Janette embodies the three essential traits of a human-centered leader: awakener, connector and upholder,” says her nomination letter.
“Janette's remarkable achievements as a charge nurse in our department have positioned her as a beacon of human-centered leadership. Her profound impact on our unit's work environment, her exemplary awakener, connector and upholder qualities, and her unwavering dedication to patient care make her a deserving nominee for this prestigious award.”
