Research and Education
An important facet of our institute is to continually advance the scientific understanding of integrative health. As part of the UCI School of Medicine, rated one of the top 50 U.S. medical schools by U.S. News & World Report, we’re a leading academic center focused on scientific research and education.
Our current key areas of research focus at the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute are:
- Acupuncture in hypertension and myocardial ischemia
- Heart disease prevention
- Mindful health and safety in the workplace
Our other ongoing areas of research include:
- Dietary and exercise approaches to aging and dementia
- Fundamental neurobiology of stress
- Genomic, proteomic, metabolomic and imaging approaches to preventing heart disease
- Integrative approaches to healthcare delivery
- Mindful health and safety in the workplace
- Neurological and cardiovascular influences of qigong
We put these approaches into practice whenever they are supported by solid scientific research. We also work to educate the medical community and our patients about the benefits and risks associated with new approaches to medicine.
