Breast Cancer Care
We understand that getting a breast cancer diagnosis can be surprising and life changing. We’re here to provide the physical, social and emotional support you need at every step.
Our approach to breast cancer care
At UCI Health, we know there is no one-size-fits-all way to treat breast cancer. That’s why we tailor your breast cancer treatment to your specific needs.
We start by getting to know you — and the type of breast cancer you have. To plan your treatment, we consider:
- The type and stage of breast cancer
- The genetic profile of the tumor
- Your health and family history
- Your lifestyle and preferences
- Your support system
A team focused on you
Your first appointment will be with a breast surgeon. They’ll spend time getting to know you, discussing your treatment options and answering your questions.
Your care team will also include:
- Medical oncologists
- Radiation oncologists
- Other breast cancer specialists
They all work together — and with you — to plan your care.
A holistic approach
Your breast cancer treatment plan may include a combination of:
- Surgery
- Radiation
- Medications (e.g., chemotherapy, hormone therapy)
We’ll also go beyond your medical needs, with supportive care like:
- Nutrition counseling with a dietitian who specializes in breast cancer
- Social and emotional support with social workers
- Complementary and integrative therapies (e.g., acupuncture, biofeedback) provided by a naturopathic oncologist who specializes in addressing side effects of treatment

We’ll see you quickly
When you receive a breast cancer diagnosis, we know you don’t want to wait to get care. Our goal is to get you in to see a breast surgeon within 48 hours of your call. We offer appointments at our four convenient locations in Costa Mesa, Irvine, Orange and Yorba Linda.
Collaborative care planning
At our weekly multidisciplinary breast cancer meetings, our team will discuss your care plan. Together, our dedicated breast cancer experts will determine the right plan just for you. That’s like having a built-in second opinion from national leaders who all focus solely on breast cancer.
Nurse navigators
After your first appointment with the breast surgeon, we’ll connect you with a nurse navigator. Your navigator will be with you throughout your entire treatment journey. They’ll help you understand what to expect, answer your questions and set up appointments. This level of support helps you focus on just your treatment.
Nationally recognized breast cancer care
At UCI Health, we make sure you have access to the breast cancer treatments and services you need to thrive. This includes access to breast cancer clinical trials, a nurse navigator who coordinates your care and genetic testing and counseling. These services and more are some of the reasons we’re designated as a National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
