Dr. Timothy R. Morgan is a board-certified UCI Health gastroenterologist who specializes in liver disease and hepatitis B and C. He has been involved in clinical research on hepatitis C and alcohol-related liver disease for the last 25 years.

A professor of gastroenterology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine and chief of hepatology at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Morgan also is chair of the Data and Safety Monitoring Board for the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases-funded non-alcoholic steatohepatitis clinical research network and chair of the Scientific Review Board for the UC Irvine Institute for Clinical and Translational Science. He also is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterology Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

He has been principal investigator on several U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs clinical trials and on hepatitis C studies funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  He is also a principal investigator on cancer chemoprevention trials funded by the National Cancer Institute. 

Morgan earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA., followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hepatology at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. He completed a second fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson.
