Dr. Yama Akbari is a board-certified UCI Health neurologist who specializes in neurocritical care, stroke and traumatic brain injury. His clinical focus is on caring for patients in the neuro-intensive care unit at UCI Medical Center. 

He earned his medical degree and a PhD in neurobiology and behavior as part of the UCI School of Medicine's MD/PhD program. He then completed a neurology residency at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA followed by a fellowship in neurocritical care at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md.

A physician-scientist, Akbara also conducts basic and translational research focused on consciousness, coma, cardiac arrest and resuscitation, blood flow and brain metabolism.

He sees patients at UCI Medical Center.
