The UCI Health Stroke STRONG Program (SSP) offers a 14-week program for people who have experienced a stroke.
Using the principles of neuroplasticity, the program features strength and endurance training supervised by therapists with additional training in neurologic rehabilitation. It's designed for those individuals who have completed physical and/or occupational therapy.
These group-guided exercises are designed to teach participants how to incorporate exercise into their daily routine and how to self-monitor their responses to exercise. The course also provides strategies to improve posture, balance, range of motion and everyday function. Exercises include the use of aerobic equipment, body weights, resistance training, posture, balance exercises and stretching.
To enroll in the Stroke STRONG Program, you should be able to:
- Express basic needs
- Follow directions independently or with the assistance of a caregiver
- Pass screening tests
