UCI Health patient safety leader recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review

IN THE NEWS: As a leader in patient safety, Chandra Broadwater is committed to finding novel ways of improving care and transforming current safety standards.
Broadwater, the director of Quality, Patient Safety and Transformation at UCI Health, was named in the Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of Patient Safety Experts to Know for the impact she has made since joining the academic health system in 2022.

Broadwater leads four synergistic teams dedicated to improving patient safety and quality at UCI Health. Since joining in August 2022, she has transformed the health system’s culture of safety, aiming to build a high-reliability organization and market leader in quality and clinical excellence. Her teams use data-driven insights and best practices to advance patient outcomes. Broadwater’s proactive patient safety strategy and innovative approach have earned UCI Health multiple national recognitions.
UCI Medical Center, part of UCI Health, is nationally recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality, safe patient care.
Independent watchdog organization The Leapfrog Group recognized the medical center with its 19th A grade in the spring Hospital Safety Grade. The medical center is also a five-star hospital and a top 10 performer nationally in the 2023 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Annual Ranking by Vizient, Inc. It is also one of the top 10 comprehensive academic medical centers in the U.S. for inpatient care.
Most recently, UCI Medical Center was upgraded to a four-star patient experience hospital by Medicare. This achievement underscores the health system’s continual commitment to exceptional healthcare and outstanding patient interactions.
UCI Medical Center also received a commendable score of 95 out of 100 on the 2024 Human Rights Campaign Healthcare Equality Index. This prestigious index recognizes U.S. healthcare facilities for their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity and equality.
