Lymphoma expert Lauren Pinter-Brown, MD, joins UCI Health
Expert led lymphoma program at UCLA

Nationally recognized lymphoma expert Lauren Pinter-Brown, MD, is joining UCI Health as a clinical professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. She will be responsible for treating patients, coordinating lymphoma clinical research and for mentoring fellows and junior faculty.
Pinter-Brown comes to UCI Health from the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center and David Geffen School of Medicine where she headed UCLA’s lymphoma program. She begins on Jan. 5, 2016.

“With her arrival, patients with lymphoma in Orange County and the surrounding areas can have the benefit of her expert knowledge and access to the latest treatments through clinical trials,” Van Etten said. “This will allow us to develop treatment plans to coordinate with community cancer providers, keeping care close to home.”
Pinter-Brown has a longstanding clinical interest in malignant lymphoma with a particular focus on T-cell and skin (cutaneous) lymphomas. She is a prolific clinical investigator and has made important contributions to several clinical trials that led to approval of new drugs for the treatment of T-cell lymphoma, including pralatrexate and romedepsin.
Pinter-Brown is part of an expanding group of nationally recognized clinician-researchers specializing in blood cancer at UC Irvine. She joins Dr. Susan O’Brien, who was recruited from MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2015. O’Brien is medical director of the Sue and Ralph Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials and Research.
Pinter-Brown earned her medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine, completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Southern California.
She remained on the USC hematology faculty until 1990, when she joined UCLA, first at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and later at the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, where she directed the Lymphoma Program in the Division of Hematology-Oncology
Pinter-Brown will see patients at the UCI Health Cancer Center – Newport on Tuesdays and at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
