Firefighters to 'Fill the Boot' to benefit UCI Health burn survivors
Costa Mesa Fire Department continues Thanksgiving weekend tradition
November 23, 2015
The Costa Mesa Fire Department is teaming up again with the UCI Health Regional Burn Center on Thanksgiving weekend for its annual Fill the Boot campaign at the Orange County Marketplace/OC Fair & Event Center to benefit burn survivors.
For nearly 20 years, Costa Mesa Fire Department firefighters have asked shoppers for donations to “Fill the Boot” to support activities for young burn patients, such as holiday parties, support groups and trips to special camps for burn survivors. The campaign has raised more than $125,000.
Costa Mesa firefighters, students from the Santa Ana College Fire Science Program and burn center staff will be at the event center’s Blue Gate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 28 and Nov. 29. UCI Health staff will host a burn prevention safety booth.
The UCI Health Regional Burn Center was among the nation’s first comprehensive burn centers when it opened more than 40 years ago and is Orange County’s only American College of Surgeons-verified burn unit. The center annually treats hundreds of patients for burns of all kinds. More than a third are children.
The OC Fair & Event Center is located at 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Visitors should park in Lot A.
