Urologic Cancer Services

UCI Health urologists deliver state-of-the-science diagnosis and treatment to patients with all types of urologic cancers, including tumors of the prostate, kidney, ureter, bladder and testicles.

The urologic oncologists with the UCI Health Center for Urological Care are renowned for their pioneering expertise in robot-assisted, minimally invasive surgery for prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. We use the da Vinci Surgical System®, which enhances the surgeon’s dexterity, precision and control.

Our Comprehensive Prostate Cancer Program specialists are nationally regarded for their expertise in performing successful robot-assisted prostatectomies and techniques that improve survival and preserve urinary continence and sexual function.

We also are national leaders in the use of cryoablation to destroy tumors of the kidney and prostate by freezing them. This procedure, performed by urologists with the UCI Health Ablative Oncology Center, can be done without incisions by guiding thin needles through the skin to the location of the tumor.

Our physicians offer the most innovative treatments and participate in leading clinical trials — giving our patients access to treatments long before they are available to the general public.

Our urologic cancer team of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals are committed to providing personalized care delivered with professionalism and compassion.

  • Minimally invasive surgery

Our urologists are known around the world for their leadership in minimally invasive surgery. This type of procedure is especially important in prostate cancer treatment to minimize the risks of incontinence and sexual dysfunction.

  • Robot-assisted surgery

We are renowned for our pioneering experience in robot-assisted, minimally invasive prostate cancer surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System, which speeds recovery time and reduces patient discomfort. We have performed thousands of robot-assisted prostatectomies at UCI Medical Center.

  • RapidArc® radiation therapy

We were the first medical center in Orange County to use RapidArc®, a groundbreaking volumetrically-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) technique. It is able to deliver an energetic X-ray beam that precisely conforms to the tumor shape to minimize damage to healthy tissue and is faster than conventional radiotherapy.
