Submandibular Gland Resection

A submandibular gland resection is a procedure in which the entire submandibular gland is removed, most often for a tumor. It can also be removed to treat stones and infections.

The submandibular gland is located underneath the jaw, on either side of the neck. The procedure to remove it is done in the operating room while you are under general anesthesia.

A small cut is made in the neck just underneath the jaw line. The gland is identified and carefully removed in one piece. The skin is then stitched back together.

Submandibular gland resection is generally an outpatient procedure in which patients may go home immediately after surgery.
