Dr. Kari J. Kansal is a board-certified UCI Health surgical oncologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating breast cancers and benign breast diseases. She is highly skilled in nipple-sparing mastectomy and minimally invasive Hidden Scar™ breast surgery.
Her clinical interests include caring for patients with breast cancer, specifically young women and pregnancy-related breast cancer, as well as patients at higher risk for developing breast malignancies. She also works collaboratively with UCI Health Integrative Health Services providers.
Kansal earned her medical degree at University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. She completed an internship and residency in general surgery at UC San Diego, where she also completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. She completed a second fellowship, in breast surgical oncology, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She joined UCI Health after serving as a breast oncology surgery instructor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Her research interests include surgical outcomes in breast cancer patients, breast cancer in young women and high-risk populations, breast conservation surgical techniques and benign breast disease. She has published numerous research papers and book chapters in her field.
Kansal sees patients in Orange and Costa Mesa.
