She earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She completed a residency in psychiatry at Washington University's Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., followed by a fellowship in public psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Langone Health in New York City.
