Code of Conduct
Thank you for visiting UCI Medical Center.
The following guidelines have been established to ensure that all UCI Health visitors, patients
and staff have a safe and orderly environment that promotes healing and the highest level of
care. Please report all safety or security concerns and incidents to our Public Safety Division at
714-456-5493, or call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
ALCOHOL: Consuming alcoholic beverages and
possessing open alcoholic beverage containers on
UCI Health property are prohibited.
ANIMALS: Pets and other animals are not permitted
on UCI Health property to ensure the health and safety
of our patients. Only qualified pet therapy animals
escorted by hospital volunteers and service animals, as
defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
are allowed. Comfort animals and companion animals
are not considered service animals. Be advised that
it is a misdemeanor to knowingly and fraudulently
represent oneself as owning a service animal
(Penal Code Section 365.7).
BICYCLES: Bicycling on sidewalks is prohibited on
UCI Health property except in those few areas where
no nearby roadway or bike path exists. No bicycles
may be operated on any landscaped areas, pedestrian
corridor, pedestrian ramp, or anywhere signs are
posted prohibiting bike riding. In areas where bicyclists
are allowed, they must obey all posted speed limits.
Additionally, no cyclist may travel at a speed greater
than is reasonable and prudent under existing
conditions. Bicycles parked must be secured
in designated racks only.
FOOD: For the safety of your loved one, please do not
give patients anything to eat or drink without getting
approval from our clinical staff.
ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES: Illegal drugs or other
substances are prohibited.
INFECTION CONTROL: To protect patients and visitors
from illness and infection, all visitors must follow
hand-washing and other posted infection-control
precaution signs in place for a given patient or patient
room, as well as instructions from clinical staff.
Visitors and/or accompanied minor children who
are ill should avoid visiting patients.
LITTER: Littering of any kind is prohibited, including
improper disposal of visitor badges. Please dispose of
visitor badges in designated trash receptacles, which
are located at all major exits for your convenience.
LOITERING: Use of UCI Health facilities are limited
to patients, visitors and authorized personnel only.
Loitering is strictly prohibited.
LOST & FOUND: All lost-and-found items shall be
turned over to UCI Health Public Safety personnel. If
you lost an item, contact Public Safety to ask whether
it has been found and turned in. If you find a lost item,
present it to any public safety officer or staff member.
NOISE: Loud music or disruptive noise of any kind is
prohibited. Quiet time is enforced at various times
depending on the location to promote a healthy healing
environment. All individuals are asked to keep noise to
a minimum.
PARKING: UCI Health parking regulations and the
California Vehicle Code are applicable on UCI Health
property; violators may be cited and/or towed at the
owner’s expense. UCI Health shall not be liable for the
loss of or damage to vehicles or their contents while
parked or garaged in a UCI Health lot or structure,
whether by fire, theft or any other cause whatsoever.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS: Do not leave any personal
items unattended. All personal belongings are left at
the owner’s risk. UCI Health is not responsible for any
lost or stolen items.

Taking photographs or video/audio recording of staff or
patients without staff permission is strictly prohibited.

and bicycles, roller skates, in-line skates and similar
skate devices (including electric/motorized) is
prohibited on UCI Health property.

advance approval from UCI Health is strictly prohibited.
VANDALISM: Anyone observed or found to be
responsible for damaging, destroying or defacing
property at UCI Health locations will be prosecuted

not limited to yelling/shouting, use of profanity,
name-calling and other derogatory, abusive and
inappropriate statements — will not be tolerated.
VIOLENCE: Acts or threats of physical violence directed
at UCI Health staff, patients or visitors on UCI Health
property will not be tolerated; UCI Health Public Safety
Division personnel will be notified immediately.
VISITING HOURS: All visitors must check-in at the
lobby/reception desk and wear a visitor pass in a
visible position above the waist at all times while on
UCI Health property. Visitors must check-in each day.
Visiting hours are generally from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Overnight visitation is permitted only on a case-by-case
basis by nursing staff and it is usually limited to one
person per patient. At the end of visiting hours, visitors
must make their way to the nearest exit and dispose
of visitor badges in designated trash receptacles.

or a threat of harm, or violates UCI Health
policies and procedures is prohibited.
Failure to obey these guidelines or comply
with lawful and responsible requests by
UCI Health staff or public safety personnel
may result in being asked to leave the facility.
If you refuse to leave, you may be arrested
and prosecuted for criminal trespass.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
