IN THE NEWS: UCI Health pharmacists are prioritizing personalized patient encounters to improve their care and ensure positive outcomes, says Chief Pharmacy Officer Melanie Joe, PharmD.
Joe was among a group of chief pharmacy officers who recently shared what their health systems are doing to boost their patients' experience with Becker’s Hospital Review.
“UCI Health Pharmacy Services is focused on improving the patient experience with the provision of medications in an accurate, safe and timely manner. Our pharmacists play an integral role in furnishing drug information, performing medication management and consultation to ensure the appropriateness of medication therapy, adherence to treatment plans, and to minimize adverse effects.
“As part of the UCI Health Transitions of Care, Meds to Beds program and our medication therapy management programs, our pharmacists enhance the patient experience and positively impact outcomes via personalized, direct patient encounters.”
Joe is also the associate director and founding associate dean for Pharmacy Professional Affairs at the UC Irvine School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. She serves as a liaison between the school and UCI Medical Center in Orange, part of UCI Health. She oversees the UCI Health pharmacy enterprise, which includes infusion centers, ambulatory locations, specialty and integrative medicine services and investigational drug services.
