Medical apps aimed at physicians gaining in popularity
February 29, 2016
IN THE NEWS: Medical apps designed to help doctors with everything from diagnosis to staying current on the latest research results and drug developments are becoming more popular, according to a story in the Orange County Register.
“It’s changing the culture of medicine from the physician side,” Dr. Warren Wiechmann, UCI Health assistant clinical professor of emergency medicine and associate dean of instructional technologies, says in the article. “It’s no longer you’re expected to know everything. Here are tools to brush up on your knowledge base. I think that’s a big shift for physicians.”
Some apps are available only to doctors and medical students, while others are available to both patients and physicians. Protecting patient privacy is the most important consideration when deciding to download a medical app. Before using one, be sure to check for a privacy policy and encryption capabilities.
