Orange County Medical Association recognizes 115 UCI Health doctors as Physicians of Excellence

The 2015 Orange County Medical Association Physicians of Excellence list includes 115 UCI Health doctors. The list was published in a special supplement of Coast magazine inserted into the Orange County Register.
The issue also includes a profile of Dr. Shaista Malik, director of the UCI Health Preventive Cardiology Program and Women’s Heart Program.
The Orange County Medical Association, a voluntary physician member organization that exists to promote the art and science of medicine, the protection of public health, and the betterment of the medical profession, selects the Physicians of Excellence. The list includes approximately 460 Orange County physicians in 60 specialties.
UCI Health doctors practice across the county. Patients may access specialty care services in Orange at the UC Irvine Medical Center, UCI Health Manchester Pavilion and UCI Health Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Clinic; in Irvine at Gottschalk Medical Plaza, Gavin Herbert Eye Institute and University Head & Neck Surgeons; and in Costa Mesa at UCI Health Cancer Center — Newport, Pacific Breast Care Center and UCI Health Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center.
UCI Health has also opened a multi-specialty care office in Tustin that includes dermatology, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology and digestive disease care, neurology, podiatry, pain management, rheumatology, obstetrics and gynecology services.
Additional specialties will continue to open in the coming months, including cardiology, orthopaedics and endocrinology.
In November, more than a dozen primary care physicians opened UCI Health Medical Group offices in Tustin and Orange to deliver care to the surrounding community.
To be eligible for OCMA recognition, physicians were required to be certified by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, a member board of the American Board of Osteopathic Medical Specialties, or an equivalency board recognized by the Medical Board of California or Osteopathic Medical Board of California; be in good standing with the Medical Board of California or Osteopathic Medical Board of California; maintain a primary practice in Orange County for the last five years; and be in practice within his/her specialty for the last five years. Additionally, physicians were required to meet at least two of the following criteria: physician leadership; teaching/mentoring; medical research/scientific advances; and humanitarian service.
