Breast cancer specialist named among Orange County's most influential people

IN THE NEWS: The Orange County Register has named UCI Health breast cancer specialist Dr. Alice M. Police one of Orange County's 100 most influential people in 2014.
Police, a surgical oncologist and medical director of UCI Health Pacific Breast Care Center, was chosen for her leading-edge care of breast cancer patients.
Police led a national clinical trial of the MarginProbe surgical system, which allows the surgeon to test for tumor-free margins during a lumpectomy. She and her team can follow this up with intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT), which delivers a single dose of targeted radiation to the tumor site, potentially sparing some patients the need for traditional lengthy radiotherapy.
