UCI Health among nation's 'Most Wired' hospitals
July 16, 2014
UCI Health has been named one of the “Most Wired” health systems in America, according to Hospitals & Health Networks.
"We have world-class physicians and clinical staff working alongside a talented IT team, developing the most advanced patient care and analytic tools,” said Scott Cebula, Interim Chief Information Officer, UCI Health.
The magazine surveyed hospitals that use leading edge information technology to improve their patient care. The UCI Health team implemented systems to closely manage medications, intelligently monitor patient conditions and help save lives.
“With these capabilities, we elevate the quality of life for the people with the most complex care needs, teach the next generation of health leaders and continue to identify new treatments through research," Cebula said.
Examples of the wired culture at UC Irvine include:
- An electronic record that is updated in real-time with patient vital signs, which enables proactive identification and treatment of infections.
- Electronic monitoring to drastically reduce patient falls.
- A full-spectrum electronic management of medication that decreases adverse outcomes and maximizes the clinical benefits to the patient.
Hospitals & Health Networks sponsors the annual Most Wired Survey, an industry-standard benchmark study designed to measure the level of IT adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems and a is useful tool for hospital and health system leadership to map their IT strategic plans. Health Forum, an American Hospital Association information company, distributes, collects and analyzes the Most Wired data and develops benchmarks that are becoming the industry standard for measuring IT adoption for operational, financial and clinical performance in health care delivery systems.
