UCI Health Family Health Centers recognized for compassionate care
August 15, 2012
The UCI Health Family Health Centers in Santa Ana and Anaheim have received the CalOptima Circle of Care Award for their dedication to individualized and compassionate care to patients of all ages.
The UCI Health Family Health Centers have adopted a team approach to healthcare in the areas of family medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology, supplemented with pharmacy, dental care, nutritional counseling, Coumadin management, X-rays and labs, and social service referrals. The majority of the centers’ staff is bilingual in English and Spanish. More than 70,000 patient visits occur annually at the two sites.
“The Family Health centers excel in diagnosis, treatment and management of the diseases that affect our patient population” said Kurt Stauder, Chief Ambulatory Officer for UCI Health. “We pride ourselves on high quality, patient-centered, evidence-based medical care.”
Affiliated with the UC Irvine School of Medicine, the centers also train medical students and resident physicians in team-based primary care and encourage them to dedicate their careers to serving the underserved by providing a model community clinic setting.
“Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of our patients by providing high-quality, accessible and comprehensive primary care to families in the neighborhoods surrounding our practice locations,” said Stauder.
Current initiatives include integrating behavioral health screening, brief intervention and treatment referral into regular clinic visits in order to identify patients affected by depression, alcohol and drug problems, and domestic violence. Additionally, a county program is funding expanded annual HIV testing for all adult patients, as the virus’s incidence is high in Anaheim and Santa Ana. All healthcare providers, residents, and staff received proper training prior to the start of the program.
The CalOptima Circle of Care Award recognizes health care professionals, community groups or individuals who demonstrate excellence in the delivery of accessible and high-quality health care services to CalOptima members. The award honors those who go above and beyond in serving their profession and patients or clients. Since the award’s inception in 2000, CalOptima has recognized more than 198 distinguished people or groups whose dedication to our members and community is extraordinary.
CalOptima is a county organized health system that administers health insurance programs for low-income families, children, seniors and persons with disabilities in Orange County.
Recipients will be recognized at the Circle of Care Awards luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012.
