More options, less stress
UCI Health offers multiple options for weight control, including medical weight management, nutrition and medically supervised diet programs, and integrative health therapies in conjunction with the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute.
Weight management
If you are struggling with your weight and are looking for a program that is medically supervised, look no further than the UCI Health Weight Management Program, led by Dr. Alpesh N. Amin. We’ve been helping people manage their weight since 1987. Our plans emphasize better overall health through exercise, nutrition and positive lifestyle changes. When you reach your goal weight, our maintenance program will help you stay on track with support and practice strategies for long-term success.

Integrative weight management
For a more holistic approach to weight control, the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute offers a comprehensive assessment and treatment plan to address hormonal and metabolic imbalances as well as mental and emotional factors that impact your weight and nutritional status. Our goal is to help you create the best version of yourself.
In addition to working with one of our integrative health providers, you have the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team including acupuncturists, massage therapists, nutritionists and yoga therapists to improve their chances of achieving healthy and effective weight loss. You can also participate in mind-body courses including Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR), tai chi, and biofeedback to manage stress, decrease emotional eating and develop important personal health-management skills.
Our whole-person philosophy recognizes the uniqueness of each individual and the need for personalized treatment plans. Our ultimate goal is to make sure you have the support and the resources you need to learn about your health, understand the reasons for your health concerns and be inspired to make positive change so you can meet and sustain your weight-management goals.

Endoscopic Services
Are you having trouble losing weight through traditional methods, but surgery may not be an option? An endoscopic weight-loss procedure may be the answer.
Endoscopy, which involves inserting a thin, flexible tube into your mouth and down through your digestive tract, allows for weight-loss procedures that can be done without open surgery. Our board-certified physicians, national leaders in the development of innovative endoscopic technologies, are at the forefront of using endoscopy safely for weight loss.
For people with a body mass index (BMI) of >27, minimally invasive alternatives are available for those who qualify. We offer outpatient procedures that do not involve incisions or a hospital stay and have no medication side effects.

Bariatric Surgery
Patients with a BMI of >40 — or >35 with other health conditions such as diabetes — may qualify for surgical procedures by our bariatric surgeons, who are national leaders in performing the safest and most effective weight-loss surgeries. Along with monthly support group meetings and individual counseling, you are supported throughout your weight-loss journey to help you achieve the results you want.
Our highly skilled bariatric surgery team — which has earned recognition from OptumHealth™ and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association for delivering the highest quality and safest care — also specializes in managing complications from previous weight-loss surgery.
When you come through our doors, we work with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
