What to expect for the TIF procedure
Timeline
You’ll usually go home the next day and can return to normal activities within a few days. Initially, you’ll be on liquids and soft foods for a few weeks, and many people can stop taking antacids within a month after the procedure.
The procedure
The EsophyX device is inserted through your mouth using a thin, flexible tube called an endoscope to rebuild and tighten your lower esophageal sphincter (LES), your body’s natural barrier to stomach acids.
The procedure, known as TIF® (Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication), also treats hiatal hernias of 2 centimeters or less — without the need for abdominal cuts or incisions like traditional surgery.
The EsophyX procedure typically takes less than an hour under general anesthesia. The device is guided to the LES via the endoscope, where it creates a strong anti-reflux valve to stop stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus.
