Heartburn, Acid Reflux and GERD: Preventing the Progression to Cancer

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) encompasses a large and diverse spectrum of disease, the consequences of which can span decades.

Shaun Daly, MD, a board-certified UCI Health surgeon who specializes in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery, will present a virtual health class, "Heartburn, Acid Reflux and GERD: Preventing the Progression to Cancer."

Daly specializes in GERD and diseases of the upper digestive tract including:

  • achalasia
  • hernias of the diaphragm
  • hiatal hernias
  • management of recurrent disease or complications from previous foregut operations

He will discuss a scenario of a patient with GERD, from onset of symptoms to treatment, focusing on all the considerations that informed the decisions for treating this disease, as well as common GERD complications.
