Dr. Maheswari Senthil is a board-certified UCI Health surgical oncologist who specializes in the management of advanced abdominal cancers, peritoneal malignancies, sarcomas, neuroendocrine tumors and melanomas.
A leader in the management of peritoneal carcinomatosis, she offers targeted systemic treatments combined with cytoreduction surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to patients with stage IV abdominal cancers.
Senthil earned her medical degree at Madurai Medical College in Madurai, India. She completed a residency in general surgery at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, and a fellowship in surgical oncology at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. She is the director of the peritoneal malignancy program and co-director of the melanoma program at the UCI School of Medicine's Department of Surgery.
Her research interests include the design and execution of clinical trials to test treatment approaches for managing advanced cancers. She also is studying novel blood-based liquid-biopsy techniques for early cancer detection.
Through bench-to-bedside translational research and technical excellence, Senthil seeks to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with advanced cancers. Her focus is on healing the body as well as the mind and spirit.
She sees patients at UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in Orange.
