Dr. John A. Scolaro is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic traumatologist. He specializes in the treatment of acute fractures as well as fractures that have not healed properly. His other areas of interest are fractures of the pelvis and hip socket, fractures around joint replacements and fractures adjacent to joints, also called peri-articular fractures.
Scolaro earned his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine, followed by an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He spent time during his residency at Medizinische Hochschule Hannover in Hanover, Germany, on a visiting scholarship. He then completed a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Wash.
His research interests include patient-focused clinical outcomes research, specifically multicenter trials and large population-based outcome measures. He also is collaborating in fracture fixation research to improve the healing of injured bones at the Orthopaedics Biomechanics Laboratory at the VA Long Beach Health System.
