Dr. Alpa S. Patel is a board-certified UCI Health ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery, astigmatism, presbyopia, dry eye and other age-related vision problems.
Her clinical interests also include pterygium surgery, laser surgery, diabetic exams and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery to prevent progressive vision loss. Her approach to treating dry eye is to stabilize the tear film and improve overall vision quality.
Patel earned her medical degree at Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill., followed by an internship at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center. She completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, followed by a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute.
Before joining UCI Health and the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, she was in private practice and also taught UCLA ophthalmology residents at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.
