Dr. Steven Mills is a UCI Health surgeon who specializes in inflammatory bowel disease, colon and rectal cancers, colon and rectal surgery, including sphincter salvage techniques and management of benign anorectal disorders.
Mills received his medical degree from New York Medical College, Valhalla, N.Y. He completed residency training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Ore., where he was a nine-time recipient of the university’s Recognition for Outstanding Service Excellence award. He then completed specialized fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Southern California.
Mills is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery, and he regularly performs laparoscopic colorectal surgery as well as robot-assisted rectal surgery. He is also active in clinical research focusing on outcomes measures for colon and rectal procedures and has made presentations at national and international meetings.
In 2006-2007, he received the UCI School of Medicine’s Associated Medical Students Golden Apple Award in recognition of outstanding teaching at UCI Medical Center. He has been awarded the Golden Scalpel Award for excellence in teaching in 2007, 2012-2014. In 2006, he was awarded the John E. Connolly Award for the outstanding professor of surgery.
