Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, Clinical Pathology
Dr. Gagan Mathur is a board-certified UCI Health clinical pathologist who specializes in transfusion medicine and blood-banking services. He serves as medical director of transfusion medicine.
His clinical focus includes the safe collection and transfusion of blood products, therapeutic apheresis procedures, stem cell collection and biotherapies, patient blood management, blood donation, anemia management, bleeding and coagulation disorders, blood malignancies, antibody-mediated diseases, thalassemia and sickle cell disease.
Mathur earned his medical degree at the Dr. Sampurnanand Medical College in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. He completed a residency in clinical pathology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he also completed fellowship training in transfusion medicine and blood banking. During his clinical training, he received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business.
His research focus also is centered around the safety and collection of blood products, blood transfusion medicine, stem cell and biotherapy collection. He also is passional about using his training in business, informatics and healthcare administration to develop blood management initiatives throughout the healthcare system.
