More Information

Dr. Patrick M. Chen is a board-certified UCI Health neurologist who specializes in neurocritical care. His clinical interests include concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI), multimodal neuromonitoring and brain health.

Chen earned his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. He completed an internal medicine internship at Legacy Emanuel Health in Portland, Ore. Next he completed a residency in neurology at UC San Diego Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He received fellowship training in neurocritical care at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

He is the founding director of the UCI Health Traumatic Brain Injury & Concussion Program, the first in Orange County dedicated to providing longitudinal, multispecialty care for concussion and TBI patients. The program's goal is to give individualized, comprehensive therapy to TBI patients and to better understand their complex long-term needs and that of their families.

Chen's longstanding research focus is on traumatic brain injury, including concussion and advanced multimodal neuromonitoring. He currently is exploring the intersection of concussion and TBI with chronic disease and brain health. He is the author or coauthor of more than two dozen research papers published in such peer-reviewed journals as JAMA, Neurology, Stroke and Neurocritical Care, and he has participated in numerous clinical trials.

He sees patients in Orange.
