Dr. Fayez M. Bany-Mohammed is a board-certified UCI Health neonatologist who specializes in neonatal and perinatal medicine and the care of critically ill newborns and premature infants. His clinical interests include thermal regulation in premature infants, lung development, respiratory disorders, thyroid function, infectious diseases and placental transfusion.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Jordan School of Medicine in Amman, Jordan, where he also completed a residency in pediatric medicine. He completed a second pediatrics residency at Cleveland Clinic Children's in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a fellowship in neonatology at UCI Medical Center and the UCI School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics.
Bany-Mohammed's research interests include neonatal hematology, neonatal infectious diseases and strategies to minimize blood loss and anemia in fragile neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) patients. He and the NICU team are also participating in multisite clinical trials on the impact of early neonatal interventions. He is the author or co-author of numerous papers published in prominent peer-reviewed journals, He also is the associate editor of the eighth edition of the influential textbook Gomella's Neonatology. He has consistently been named a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association.
