Dr. Robert E. Bristow is a board-certified UCI Health gynecologic oncologist and nationally recognized leader in ovarian cancer surgery and the treatment of endometrial and other gynecologic cancers.
Bristow, who is chair of the UCI School of Medicine's Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, also holds the Philip J. DiSaia endowed chair in gynecologic oncology. He was awarded the 2022 Innovation Award by the Society for Gynecologic Oncology for his impact on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers.
He earned his medical degree at the Keck School of Medicine at USC in Los Angeles, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Next, he completed an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md., and a fellowship gynecologic oncology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA in Los Angeles.
He also holds a masters in business administration from Johns Hopkins University, where he served on the medical school's faculty in oncology, gynecology and obstetrics for 12 years before joining UCI Health and the UCI School of Medicine as chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in 2010.
Bristow's research interests include healthcare outcomes and disparities in care for women with cancer of the ovary and endometrium. He is the author or co-author of more than 175 peer-reviewed research articles published in major journals, including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology and the International Journal of Gynecologic Cancer. He also is co-author of leading textbooks on surgery for ovarian and other gynecologic cancers.
