Dr. Pranav M. Patel is a board-certified UCI Health interventional cardiologist. He specializes in noninvasive approaches to treating coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease, as well as structural and valvular heart conditions.

He earned his medical degree with a distinction in research at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo., followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed a fellowship in cardiology and interventional cardiology at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, R.I., then received advanced training in clinical cardiology and research at Harvard University School of Medicine and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass.

Patel, a professor and chief of the UCI School of Medicine’s Division of Cardiology, directs the UCI Health Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiac Care Unit. Because of his work as an interventional cardiologist, UCI Health became the first health system in Orange County to provide heart failure patients with an implantable wireless system. This allowed cardiologists to continuously monitor patients’ pulmonary artery pressure and heart-rate measurements remotely.

He has presented his work at national and international cardiology meetings, published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and authored multiple chapters in medical textbooks. He has been honored consistently as a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association since 2014.

Patel serves on the board of directors for the American Heart Association in Orange County. He is governor-elect of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in Southern California and a past-president of the California ACC.
