Dr. Olivia H. Chang is a board-certified UCI Health urogynecologist and gender affirming surgeon. She specializes in minimally invasive surgeries offering vaginal, laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgical modalities.

Her clinical interests include urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction, pelvic reconstructive surgery, mesh excision surgery, vesicovaginal and rectovaginal fistulas, complications of pelvic radiation and Mullerian anomalies. She leads the gender affirming genital surgery program at UCI.

Chang earned her medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, La. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass, followed by a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. She also holds a master's degree in Public Health from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. Before joining UCI Health and the UCI School of Medicine, she was an assistant professor at the University of Washington and UW Medical Center's Pelvic Health Center in Seattle.

Her research focus is on surgical outcomes after pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence and fistula surgeries, uterine-preserving surgeries and the impact of hysterectomies on pelvic flood disorders. She is the author of more than 50 published research papers.

Chang is committed to ensuring that all patients have access to high-quality treatment for pelvic organ prolapse, urinary issues and congenital or acquired conditions that require vaginal reconstruction. It can feel isolating to have pelvic floor disorders, so she takes the time to welcome each patient with kindness and patience. She works closely with every patient to identify their problems and offer evidence-based solutions based on their wishes.

She has extensive surgical and non-surgical training in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, offering mesh vs. non-mesh treatment options. She also provides uterine-preservation prolapse surgeries as well as hysterectomies at the time of prolapse procedures. She performs complex vaginal reconstruction for congenital anomalies (vaginal agenesis, vaginal septum), radiation complications, as well as complex vesicovaginal fistula (bladder fistula) or rectovaginal fistula.

Chang also provides gender-affirming surgeries for transgender patients, including gender-affirming hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, vaginectomy, revision vaginoplasties and complex vaginal reconstruction with the use of myocutaneous (skin/muscle) flaps.
