Dr. Melissa L. Mao is a board-certified UCI Health endocrine surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery and disorders of the adrenal glands.
Her clinical interests include thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism, adrenal gland tumors, thyroid nodules and goiters, Graves' disease, Cushing's disease, Conn's syndrome and pheochromocytoma, which is a rare type of adrenal gland tumor.
Mao earned her medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. She completed a residency in general surgery at St. Luke's University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., followed by a fellowship in endocrine surgery with the University of Miami Leonard Miller School of Medicine program at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Fla.
She has contributed to numerous research papers in published journals and has made presentations at many national conferences.
