Dr. Irmina Gradus-Pizlo is a UCI Health cardiologist who specializes in heart failure and adult congenital heart disease. Her clinical interests include echocardiography, hypertension, coronary artery disease, myocardial ischemia and left ventricular function.

Gradus-Pizlo earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland. After completing an internal medicine internship in Poland, she moved to the United States, where she worked as a guest researcher at the National Institutes of Health and as a postdoctoral fellow at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in indianapolis, where she completed an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship. Next, she conducted a year of echocardiographic imaging research at the Krannert institute and joined its faculty.

At Indiana University Health System in Indianapolis, Gradus-Pizlo built an advanced heart care program, first as an outpatient clinic for patients with heart failure. She collaborated closely with the health system's heart transplant and cardiovascular surgery teams to develop a ventricular assist device (VAD) program. She also worked closely with the pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery teams at Indiana University's Riley Hospital for Children. This collaboration led to the development of an adult congenital heart disease program. While at Indiana University School of Medicine, she earned a reputation as a master teacher, receiving numerous trustee awards and it's prestigious Department of Medicine Distinguished Teacher Award.

Gradus-Pizlo is also an experienced echocardiographer whose research interests include the application of echocardiography to the early detection of disease and population screening. Her published research is concentrated on early detection of coronary artery disease using this technology. Her goal is to combine expertise in heart failure, interest in early disease detection and expertise in echocardiography in order to develop an early detection tool for patients with asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction.
