Dr. Anand K. Ganesan is a board-certified UCI Health dermatologist who specializes in skin cancer and skin pigmentation disorders, including vitiligo, melasma and albinism.

He earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, where he also received a doctoral degree in microbiology and molecular genetics. He completed an internal medicine internship at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, Calif., followed by a residency in dermatology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

A prolific physician-scientist, Ganesan's research is focused on understanding how melanocytes respond to environmental cues, such as ultraviolet radiation and inflammation, to maintain normal homeostasis and how that homeostasis is disrupted by diseases processes, including melanoma and vitiligo. His work spans the spectrum from basic laboratory studies to clinical trials as he seeks to develop novel approaches to diagnosing and treating disease.

He is the author or co-author of dozens of peer-reviewed publications that have appeared in prestigious medical journals, including the recent discovery of a new class of drugs with the potential to treat melanoma and other cancers.
