Vocal Cord Cyst
A vocal cord cyst is a fluid-filled growth. They typically occur when the voice has been overused or misused.
Symptoms
Symptoms of a vocal cord cyst include primarily hoarseness.
Other symptoms may include a sensation of throat discomfort and frequent throat clearing.
Treatment
Voice therapy is the first step in treating a vocal cord cyst.
If voice therapy is not effective, removing the cyst surgically may be necessary. This very delicate procedure requires magnification of the anatomy and using fine instruments.
Following surgery, resting the voice and continuing with voice therapy are very important.
